President Lee Inspects Basic Income Pilot in North Gyeongsang Province

Taipei:North Gyeongsang President Lee Jae Myung visited a southeastern province to inspect a government pilot program aimed at providing a monthly basic income to residents in depopulated rural towns.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee shared details of his unannounced trip to North Gyeongsang Province through a social media post, where he extended greetings to residents in Yeongyang and Cheongsong counties.

The Lee government has launched the basic income scheme to support local residents with 150,000 won (US$112) per month in gift vouchers. This initiative is being implemented in 17 out of the 69 counties nationwide that have been designated as population-declining regions.
