Seoul:President Lee Jae Myung is returning home after concluding a state visit to Mexico, which followed his participation in the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee addressed the 81st U.N. General Assembly, where he emphasized his role as a "pacemaker" to facilitate dialogue between the U.S. and North Korea. He also outlined a phased approach to denuclearize North Korea, starting with the cessation and reduction of its nuclear and missile programs.
During his time in New York, Lee met with U.S. President Donald Trump, who reiterated his commitment to dialogue with North Korea, as confirmed by South Korean officials.
In Mexico, Lee held a summit with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. They agreed on a joint action plan to enhance economic cooperation and broaden collaboration in areas such as artificial intelligence and the defense sector. Lee's state visit to Mexico began on Wednesday, with the summit occurring the following day.
President Lee is expected to return home on Sunday.
