Washington: The leader of the main opposition People Power Party (PPP) is set to engage in a series of high-profile meetings with U.S. lawmakers and Trump administration officials during his weeklong visit to the United States, a PPP lawmaker revealed on Monday. The visit underscores the ongoing diplomatic efforts and cooperation between the two nations.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Rep. Jang Dong-hyeok, who embarked on his U.S. trip this past Saturday, is slated to visit the White House in Washington on Wednesday (local time) for discussions with senior officials. PPP lawmaker Kim Dai-sik, who spoke to reporters, did not provide further details about the meeting.

When questioned about the possibility of Jang meeting U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Kim refrained from commenting, noting that the U.S. had requested the meeting to remain confidential.

On Tuesday, Jang is set to meet with Reps. Ryan Zinke (R-MT), Young Kim (R-CA)-a Korean American who chairs the House Subcommittee on East Asia and the Pacific-and Joe Wilson (R-SC), a member of the Congressional Korea Caucus.

The following day, Jang plans to deliver a speech on the Seoul-Washington alliance at a roundtable discussion hosted by the International Republican Institute. He will also meet with Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA) and Sen. Andy Kim (D-NJ).

Later on Wednesday, Jang is expected to visit the White House for meetings with Trump administration officials, before concluding his trip and returning home on Thursday, according to the PPP.
