POSCO Dismisses Head of Pohang Steelworks Following Recent Fatal Accidents

South korea: POSCO, the country's steel giant, has dismissed the head of its Pohang Steelworks in response to a series of fatal accidents at the plant located on the southeastern coast, industry sources revealed on Friday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee Dong-ryeol, who was leading the operations at the Pohang facility situated approximately 300 kilometers southeast of Seoul, has been removed from his position. This decision comes after three workers were found in cardiac arrest on Thursday, suspected to have inhaled toxic gas at POSCO's main steelmaking plant.

The recent incident follows another tragic event just two weeks earlier, where one worker was killed and three others sustained burns after exposure to chemical substances from damaged pipes at the Pohang facility. These consecutive accidents have prompted POSCO to take decisive action in addressing safety concerns at the plant.
