Seoul: Police have issued a third summons to former President Yoon Suk Yeol, compelling him to present himself for questioning concerning charges tied to his failed attempt at instituting martial law. The summons requires Yoon to appear by next Thursday, following his non-compliance with two earlier summonses set for June 5 and the day prior.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the police emphasized the necessity of an in-person investigation, stating, "We sent an appearance order after determining that an in-person investigation of former President Yoon was absolutely necessary." Yoon faces allegations of instructing the Presidential Security Service (PSS) to obstruct the execution of a detention warrant against him in early January.

Yoon is also under investigation for allegedly directing the PSS to erase records from secure phones used by three military commanders soon after his unsuccessful martial law attempt on December 3. The former president's lawyer, Yun Gap-geun, submitted a statement on Wednesday asserting that Yoon will not comply with the questioning, arguing that the legal basis for the summons is unfounded.

In response to Yoon's continued non-cooperation, the police are contemplating the possibility of requesting an arrest warrant should he disregard the third summons. Additional measures under consideration include conducting an investigation by visiting him directly or opting for written questioning.
