Police Arrest Nine More in Spy Camera Scandal at South Korean Polling Stations

Seoul, South Korea — The South Korean police have intensified their crackdown on illegal surveillance at polling stations by booking nine additional suspects on Monday. These individuals are believed to have assisted in the installation of spy cameras at approximately 40 locations during the April 10 parliamentary elections.

According to Yonhap News Agency, these arrests are part of an ongoing investigation involving a YouTuber who was previously apprehended for allegedly placing cameras in early polling and vote-counting sites across multiple cities including Seoul and Busan. The YouTuber claimed he aimed to expose possible manipulations of turnout figures by the National Election Commission. The latest suspects are accused of aiding the YouTuber by providing financial support or physically assisting in the camera installations, with some even promising to retrieve the devices post-election. Police have already forwarded the YouTuber and two others to the prosecution for potential charges, while the newly identified suspects were implicated through further analysis of related evidence. Fortunately, the early detection and removal of the cameras prevented any unauthorized filming during the voting period.
