PM Says to Focus on Policy Implementation, Safety, Economy Ahead of Elections

Seoul: Prime Minister Kim Min-seok said Tuesday he will focus on the three main areas of policy implementation, safety and the economy ahead of the June local elections. Speaking to reporters at the government complex, Kim emphasized the importance of these issues, particularly as many local government chiefs are preparing to run for election, potentially creating a vacuum in the everyday operation of state affairs.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the prime minister highlighted the precariousness of the current economic situation, exacerbated by recent developments in Iran. "Just when the economy was improving, the Iran situation suddenly happened and there are lots of worries overall," Kim stated. He urged all ministries to conduct an emergency check on state affairs, underscoring the need for vigilance during this period.

Kim also reflected on his recent visit to an accident site in Anseong, approximately 65 kilometers south of Seoul, noting that safety issues are at significant risk of being neglected during election season. He stressed that the government must remain alert to prevent such oversights.

Furthermore, Kim pointed out that the ongoing war in the Middle East has precipitated an "emergency economic situation," necessitating the government's focused attention on the supply of daily necessities to ensure stability in the domestic market.
