Seoul: Prime Minister Kim Min-seok met with Michael Harris, the vice chairman and global head of capital markets at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), on Monday to explore ways to deepen cooperation and advance capital markets between South Korea and the United States.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Prime Minister Kim expressed optimism about maintaining close communication with the NYSE to support the development of capital markets in both nations. He emphasized the importance of continuous dialogue to enhance financial collaboration and market growth.
Michael Harris responded by highlighting President Lee Jae Myung's hosting of the Korea Investment Summit on Wall Street last year. He noted that this event was a significant signal of the direction in which South Korea's capital markets are heading. The summit, convened in September during President Lee's trip to New York for the U.N. General Assembly, brought together global investors and Korean corporate leaders to boost the Korean stock market.
Harris remarked that the summit made a lasting impression on Wall Street and global investors. He indicated that the NYSE is considering potential benefits it could extend to South Korean firms as a result of this strengthened partnership.
