PM arrives in Bogota on five-day visit to Colombia, Ecuador
BOGOTA/SEOUL, Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon arrived in the Colombian capital of Bogota on Saturday for a five-day trip that will also take him to Ecuador to discuss ways to bolster cooperation with the two countries.
During his three-day stay in Colombia, Lee will meet with President Ivan Duque Marquez to talk about bilateral ties in trade, investment, infrastructure and other areas.
Lee is also scheduled to meet with veterans who fought in the 1950-53 Korean War and attend a business forum.
After the visit to Colombia, Lee will leave for Ecuador on Monday for a meeting with President Lenin Moreno, followed by an expanded meeting involving Vice President Otto Sonnenholzner.
In Ecuador, the prime minister will also attend a ceremony celebrating the first assembly production of a Hyundai Motor sedan in the country.
Lee's trip is part of the government's efforts to expand diplomacy with Central and South America.
Lee is the first South Korean prime minister to visit Colombia in 37 years and will be the highest South Korean official to visit Ecuador since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1962.
