Seoul: An opposition-led parliamentary committee has issued orders to bring impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol and six others involved in the martial law declaration to the National Assembly as witnesses. The demands were issued on Wednesday as part of an investigation into Yoon's insurrection charges.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the special committee initiated these orders after Yoon, former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun, and five other military officials failed to appear for the first hearing despite being designated as witnesses. The committee has mandated their presence by 2 p.m. for further inquiries.
Yoon, who has been charged with insurrection and abuse of power concerning his brief martial law announcement on December 3, is currently detained at the Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang, located south of Seoul, since Sunday.
