Pak skiers off to Lebanon for Asian Boys Ski Championship
Islamabad-A five-member Pakistan ski squad flew from Islamabad to Lebanon on Thursday to feature in the 25th Alpine Asian Boys Ski Championship 2016.
The championship is being held at Mzar Ski resort, Faraya Lebanon from March 3-7, a spokesman of Ski Federation of Pakistan (SFP) told APP.
Skiers from eight Asian countries will feature in the event: South Korea, Pakistan, Nepal, India, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Mongolia and hosts Lebanon. Greece is another country, whose skiers will also be chipping in the event.
It is for the first time that the SFP is sending top boys from various organizations to appear in the event. The boys have been selected on merit and on the recent performance in national ski events held at Naltar, the spokesman said.
Pakistan outfit is spearheaded by Waqas Azam of Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), while Zahid Ali Khan (Army), Fazal Wadood (GB Ski Association) and M. Suleman (PAF) are other members of the team. Yasir has accompanied them as coach.
Meanwhile, Waqas Azam told APP that the moral of Pakistan boys was very high and they were in good shape.
He said they had also attended extensive training sessions at Naltar ski resort and were confident to do well.
"We've learnt a lot in the recently held winter games at Naltar and feel confident to do well in the championship", added Azam, who also won double gold in these games.
