OpenAI CEO Discusses AI Cooperation with Samsung and SK Heads in Seoul

Seoul: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman met with the leaders of Samsung and SK to explore cooperation in the artificial intelligence sector, industry sources revealed. Altman, upon his arrival at SK Group’s main building in central Seoul, mentioned to reporters, “We have a lot of topics today,” before his meeting with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Altman also held a separate meeting with Samsung Electronics Co. Chairman Lee Jae-yong after his visit to SK Group. The discussions likely centered around potential collaboration in OpenAI’s Stargate program, an AI infrastructure project involving industry giants Samsung and SK, known for their global semiconductor influence.

In January, OpenAI, along with Oracle Corp. and Japan’s SoftBank, announced plans to invest at least $500 billion in the U.S. AI industry through a joint venture named Stargate. Altman’s recent meetings with the two business leaders occurred roughly a month after they participated in a South Korea-U.S. business roundtable, which coincided with summit discussions between President Lee Jae Myung and U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington in August.

Later in the day, Altman was scheduled to meet with the South Korean president, indicating the significance of AI collaboration between these prominent entities.
