Mongolia: Representatives from 15 organizations across Laos PDR, Mongolia, the United Republic of Tanzania, and Vietnam gathered in Mongolia from July 4th to 6th to enhance their risk communication skills for food safety. This initiative is part of the One Health for Food Safety project funded by the Republic of Korea, which aims to support countries in applying risk analysis to manage high-priority foodborne diseases.
According to EMM, effective risk communication is a crucial pillar of risk analysis, ensuring food safety issues are adequately addressed. Each participating country in the workshop faces distinct food safety challenges. Mongolia, for instance, is focused on reducing Salmonella in meat, while Lao PDR is tackling the high prevalence of liver flukes. Tanzania is working to control Brucella spp. in milk, and Vietnam is addressing risks associated with Streptococcus suis. Participants worked on developing risk communication plans specific to their food safety concerns, focusing on identifying target audiences, crafting messages, and selecting suitable communication methods and channels.
