Omnibus Account Balance for South Korean Bond Investors Reaches 15 Trillion Won

Seoul: The accumulative balance of South Korea's omnibus government bond accounts for foreign investors has reached 15 trillion won (US$10.2 billion), about 17 months after the service was launched, the Korea Securities Depository (KSD) said Monday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the accounts, linked to the International Central Securities Depositories (ICSD), were first introduced in June 2024 to facilitate treasury bond investment for foreigners. Omnibus accounts are designed to hold securities for multiple clients, often managed by brokers to help simplify the accounting process and reduce costs.

"We will make efforts to expand the accessibility of foreigners to the local market," KSD President Lee Soon-ho said.
