Seoul: Nvidia Corp. and SK hynix Inc. announced they have embarked on a multi-year technology partnership aimed at advancing next-generation memory technologies for artificial intelligence (AI) factories. "We made a very significant and long-term partnership with SK," stated Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang during a press briefing at the SK Group headquarters in Seoul.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the collaboration will see both companies jointly develop technology road maps and deepen their engagement beyond traditional memory development. SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won remarked that this partnership signifies a new phase in the cooperation between the two firms, noting that their prior collaborations have primarily focused on memory.
SK hynix highlighted that the partnership will expand its footprint in emerging AI sectors, such as personal AI and physical AI. This collaboration aims to secure a stable supply of advanced memory products, even with extensive development cycles. Jensen Huang emphasized the early stages of the AI revolution and expressed optimism about the long-term potential of AI technologies.
Nvidia plans to assist SK hynix in expanding into new domains, including AI infrastructure and physical AI. The companies will work together on developing memory technologies crucial for Vera Rubin, Nvidia's next-generation flagship AI platform. This agreement involves co-developing memory technologies for Nvidia's upcoming systems, including Vera Rubin AI supercomputers.
SK hynix, alongside local competitor Samsung Electronics Co. and Micron Technology, provides HBM4, a vital memory component for Vera Rubin. Nvidia announced that Vera Rubin is now in full production, with deliveries set to commence in the third quarter of this year. The announcement coincided with Jensen Huang's prominent visit to South Korea, where he is engaging with leaders of major conglomerates and researchers to explore expanded cooperation in AI and robotics.
