North Korea’s Strategic Developments and International Relations Highlighted

Seoul: The recent developments in North Korea have drawn significant international attention, as the nation continues to engage in military exercises and parliamentary activities. North Korea's recent firepower strike drill, involving 600 mm ultra-precision multiple rocket launchers, has prompted the United States to consult with its allies, reaffirming its defense commitment to them.

According to Yonhap News Agency, North Korea's leader Kim Jong-un participated in the parliamentary elections by casting his ballot at a coal mine constituency. Additionally, the former North Korean point man on inter-Korean affairs has taken on the role of chief of the rubber-stamp party. Meanwhile, South Korea's unification minister has extended an appeal to North Korea, urging them not to miss the opportunity for talks with former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Reports have emerged that a Pyongyang-sponsored hacking group is utilizing the messaging app KakaoTalk to distribute malware, and it is estimated that North Korea has accrued up to US$14.4 billion from its involvement in the Russia-Ukraine war. Furthermore, North Korea plans to hold the first session of its new Supreme People's Assembly, as announced by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

Kim Jong-un has also inspected a memorial museum dedicated to troops sent to Russia during the conflict with Ukraine, and the nation has showcased 'human-like' robots at polling stations and schools. North Korea and Russia have recently commemorated the 77th anniversary of their bilateral treaty on economic and cultural cooperation, and North Korea has embarked on a project to modernize Pyongyang. The nation has also highlighted a cement factory praised by Kim Jong-un as a model for boosting industrial output.

N. Korea-China trade has reached over US$427 million in the January-February period, marking the highest level in nine years. The U.S. report indicates that North Korea remains committed to expanding its nuclear and missile programs, posing significant threats to South Korea and Japan. In addition, North Korea has denounced Japan's move to expand lethal arms exports, and Kim Jong-un has overseen a combined drill involving new main battle tanks.
