NIS and Army Collaborate to Enhance South Korea’s Drone Defense

Gyeryong: The National Intelligence Service (NIS) has entered into a partnership with the Army to boost South Korea's drone security capabilities, officials announced. This agreement, aimed at enhancing the nation's response to drone-related threats, was formalized at the Army headquarters in Gyeryong, located approximately 130 kilometers south of Seoul.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the collaboration comes amid the rising significance of drones in modern warfare, highlighted by their prevalent use in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and other global disputes. The agreement stipulates that the NIS will share the latest drone-related intelligence and advancements with the Army. Furthermore, the two entities will work together to refine regulations concerning the integration and use of cutting-edge drones within military operations.

The partnership also includes joint efforts to assess the performance of drones and counter-drone technologies, alongside conducting coordinated training exercises to address drone-related threats to national security infrastructure. The NIS has observed growing demand within the military for data on state-of-the-art drone systems deployed in international battlefields.

An official from the NIS stated, "Through close cooperation with the Army, the NIS plans to establish a national drone security system and provide support for drone threat response measures." This collaboration underscores the strategic importance of drones and the necessity for robust defense mechanisms in safeguarding national security.
