New Padre Song Sung-mun Excited to Join Forces with Manny Machado

San diego: New Padres player Song Sung-mun is eagerly anticipating the chance to play alongside All-Star third baseman Manny Machado. During a recent visit to Petco Park to finalize his contract with the San Diego Padres, Song expressed his excitement about meeting Machado, despite not encountering any teammates during his offseason visit.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Song returned to Seoul and shared his enthusiasm with reporters at Incheon International Airport, noting Machado's impressive career in Major League Baseball (MLB). Song has followed Machado's journey since his school days and is inspired by his achievements, which include seven All-Star selections, two Gold Gloves, three Silver Sluggers, and one Platinum Glove.

Song also acknowledged the connection Machado had with his former Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) teammate, Kim Ha-seong, who previously played for the Padres. Machado and Kim collaborated well on the field, with Kim even adopting the nickname "Kimchado" in homage to Machado.

In addition to Machado, Song expressed interest in teammate Will Wagner, who shares the same jersey number Song wore in the KBO. Although typically veterans may negotiate for such numbers, Song is open to taking any number available, showing his humility and adaptability as he joins the Padres.

Song also revealed his eagerness to face Pittsburgh Pirates ace Paul Skenes, the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner. Known for his powerful fastball, Skenes has consistently reached speeds of 100 miles per hour. Song, a strong fastball hitter in the KBO with a .358 batting average against the pitch, is preparing to adapt to the increased velocity encountered in MLB.

Song is confident in his abilities but recognizes the need for preparation to succeed in the major leagues. He remains optimistic about his transition and looks forward to competing against top-tier pitchers in the league.
