Navy Commits to Prevent Future Oil Spills Following Major Containment Operation

Jinhae: The Navy has pledged to prevent future oil spills after a significant containment effort was undertaken in response to a weekend incident where thousands of liters of fuel were accidentally discharged into the sea.

According to Yonhap News Agency, a total of 8,400 liters of diesel were spilled into the waters near the southern port city of Jinhae, approximately 310 kilometers southeast of Seoul, on Sunday morning. The spill occurred during a refueling operation involving a 2,500-ton warship, as reported by both the Navy and the Coast Guard.

The containment operations, which were a collaborative effort between the Navy and the Coast Guard, were successfully completed by around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday. The Navy has stated that it will undertake a thorough investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident and will implement necessary measures according to the law to prevent the recurrence of such accidents.
