Nat’l Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik to Visit Uzbekistan and Turkey for Bilateral Cooperation Talks

Seoul: National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik is set to embark on a six-day trip to Uzbekistan and Turkey on Monday, aiming to discuss ways to enhance cooperation with Central Asian countries.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Woo will attend the 3rd Korea-Central Asia Parliamentary Speakers' Conference in Uzbekistan. The conference will focus on addressing key global issues with parliamentary leaders from across Central Asia. Woo is expected to outline the parliament's role and vision, aligning with the conference's theme of cooperation for human dignity, social justice, and environmental protection.

During his visit to Uzbekistan, Woo will have courtesy meetings with Uzbek Senate Chairperson Tanzila Narbayeva and Legislative Chamber Chairman Nuriddinjon Ismailov. The discussions will explore opportunities to deepen bilateral ties, particularly in areas such as official development assistance and critical mineral supply chains. The meetings will also address support measures for the 180,000 ethnic Koreans residing in Uzbekistan, the largest ethnic Korean community in Central Asia.

Following his visit to Uzbekistan, Woo will travel to Turkey to meet with Turkish parliament speaker Numan Kurtulmus. The two sides are expected to discuss ways to advance their strategic partnership, focusing on expanding opportunities for Korean companies in key Turkish industries.
