Singapore: National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik has met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong to explore ways to enhance the bilateral free trade agreement (FTA) and expand cooperation between South Korea and Singapore, officials reported on Tuesday. The discussions took place at Singapore's presidential palace, focusing on advancing trade collaborations in supply chains and green energy, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the FTA.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Woo expressed hope for a revision of the FTA to further solidify trade cooperation. He also solicited Singapore's support for South Korea's application to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership, a 12-member trade bloc. Furthermore, Woo highlighted South Korea's initiative to establish a sovereign wealth fund, urging increased investment by Singaporean sovereign funds in South Korean enterprises.

Prime Minister Wong acknowledged the bipartisan efforts of both countries' parliaments to bolster bilateral relations, emphasizing areas such as defense, nuclear energy, and infrastructure. In a separate meeting, Woo engaged with Singaporean counterpart Seah Kian Peng to discuss partnerships in artificial intelligence, climate crisis response, and energy initiatives.
