Seoul: The National Assembly has approved a groundbreaking framework bill aimed at the development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, as reported by the science ministry. This landmark legislation, which is poised to be the first of its kind globally, is scheduled to come into effect early next year.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the revised Framework Act on the Development of Artificial Intelligence and the Creation of a Foundation for Trust was passed during a parliamentary plenary session. It is set to be implemented from January 22. This bill lays the legislative groundwork for establishing AI research centers, prioritizing AI products and services for public sector contracts, and supporting new businesses in the AI sector.
Furthermore, the bill emphasizes user feedback, particularly from those who may encounter difficulties using the technology, such as the disabled and the elderly. It incorporates these perspectives into AI policy development and includes provisions for financial support to assist individuals struggling with AI products and services.
