Pyongyang: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has visited a construction site dedicated to honoring North Korean soldiers who died in Russia's conflict with Ukraine. According to state media, Kim praised these soldiers' sacrifices, describing them as an "eternal cornerstone" for Pyongyang.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim inspected the site of the Memorial Museum of Combat Feats at the Overseas Military Operations in Pyongyang. During his visit, he participated in a symbolic tree-planting ceremony, which marked the beginning of the museum's development. Images released by North Korea's state media also showed Kim's wife, Ri Sol-ju, and daughter, Ju-ae, participating in the event.

Kim emphasized that the sacrifices of the North Korean troops would be a "solid root and eternal cornerstone" supporting the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). This memorial marks the first time North Korea is building a museum to commemorate soldiers killed in overseas operations.

Previously, in August of last year, Kim awarded commendations to the soldiers who were dispatched to support Russia. He also announced plans to create a special street in Pyongyang to honor their sacrifices, with the construction of the museum commencing in October. North Korea has reportedly sent over 10,000 troops and conventional weapons to aid Russia's war efforts, resulting in significant casualties among its forces.
