Pyongyang: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has conducted an inspection of tactical guided weapons production at a munitions factory, directing officials to increase production capacity by 2 1/2 times, as reported by state media.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim's visit to the factory included a tour of its technologically updated production areas, aimed at inspecting the modernization efforts in place. However, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) did not disclose the factory's exact location or name. During his visit, Kim emphasized the importance of innovative planning and implementing rational systems to establish a flexible manufacturing process. He pointed out existing deficiencies in the assembly process's modernization and instructed officials to reassess plans for the construction and modernization of munitions enterprises within the year.

The KCNA reported that Kim highlighted the necessity for the munitions industry to conduct economic organization and manage production and technical upgrades meticulously. This approach is meant to align with the current situation, where munitions production and modernization projects must progress simultaneously. Kim noted the military value of the tactical guided weapons system, suggesting it could eventually replace the country's multiple launch rocket system. Plans are in place to equip major military units with this weapon starting in the first half of this year.

Further, Kim stressed the need to expand current production capacity significantly to fulfill the defense ministry and the General Staff's equipment demands. He also emphasized the importance of focusing on improving the quality of the contracted products, according to the KCNA.
