Hanoi: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has extended his congratulations to Vietnam's leader To Lam on his reelection as head of the ruling party. Kim expressed confidence in the growth of bilateral cooperation across various fields, as reported by the North's state media.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim sent the congratulatory message on Friday, coinciding with the 68-year-old Lam's reelection as head of state for a five-year term at the ruling party's central committee. This election extends Lam's leadership position. Kim acknowledged Lam's reelection as a testament to the trust placed in him by party members and the Vietnamese people.

In his message, Kim referenced an agreement made with Lam last year, expressing optimism that the friendly and cooperative relations between their two parties and countries, with a longstanding history and tradition, will significantly expand and develop.

Lam visited North Korea in October last year to attend a military parade marking the 80th founding anniversary of its ruling party. This visit marked the first by a Vietnamese top leader to North Korea since 2007. During this visit, Kim and Lam held discussions, agreeing to enhance high-level exchanges and elevate bilateral relations.
