Pyongyang: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has praised the country's troops deployed to assist Russia in its conflict with Ukraine, emphasizing that their involvement reinforces the "invincible alliance" between Pyongyang and Moscow, as reported by state media.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim conveyed this message in a New Year's letter addressed to North Korean soldiers stationed abroad. The letter, dated Wednesday, was released by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). North Korea has dispatched over 10,000 troops and conventional weapons to support Russia's military efforts, with thousands reportedly having lost their lives in combat.

In his New Year's greetings, Kim expressed that the year 2025 shines brightly due to the "imperishable" honor the troops have preserved through their sacrifices. He lauded them as "the greatest strength, pride and a strong pillar" of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

Kim expressed his desire to reunite with the soldiers at the earliest opportunity, stating that his highest hope is for their safe return home. He urged the troops to prioritize their safety during their brave endeavors for the Russian people and the enduring reputation of North Korea.

The KCNA further reported on Kim's meeting with families of soldiers serving overseas during a New Year's celebration in Pyongyang. During this meeting, Kim expressed his thoughts for the commanding officers and combatants of the overseas operations units, wishing for their safe return after completing their missions.
