Seoul: North Korea fired one unidentified ballistic missile toward the East Sea on Friday, South Korea's military reported, with Pyongyang remaining unresponsive to offers by Seoul and Washington to resume talks.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) detected the launch from near Taegwan County in North Phyongan Province at 12:35 p.m. Details regarding the missile's type and range are still under analysis by the South Korean military. The JCS emphasized that the military has heightened its surveillance for any potential additional launches and is actively sharing information with the United States and Japan to maintain a state of readiness.

The recent launch follows North Korea's previous firing of short-range ballistic missiles northeastward on October 22, just before South Korea's hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit and U.S. President Donald Trump's visit to the country. This marks the sixth ballistic missile launch by North Korea this year, and the second since President Lee Jae Myung's administration began in June.

The missile launch occurred a day after North Korea criticized the latest U.S. sanctions imposed on eight North Korean individuals and two entities for cybercrime-related money laundering. North Korea condemned the sanctions, viewing them as a continuation of Washington's hostile policy toward Pyongyang, and promised to respond with appropriate measures, asserting a stance of patience.
