Pyongyang: North Korea has unveiled a timetable for passenger rail services linking its capital, Pyongyang, to China's Beijing amid reports of the route's resumption, as shown on a state-run North Korean website promoting tourism.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the website DPR Korea Tour displayed the international rail service timetable, indicating trains departing Pyongyang at 10:25 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday, arriving in Beijing via the Chinese border city of Dandong. Trains from Beijing depart at 5:27 p.m. on the same days, heading to Pyongyang through Dandong.

The timetable also features schedules for rail services between Pyongyang and Moscow, which resumed in mid-June after a nearly five-year halt due to COVID-19. The train service to Beijing via Dandong has been suspended since January 2020 because of the pandemic. However, NHK, a Japanese broadcasting network, reported last week that North Korea and China have agreed to restart passenger rail service between their capitals.

Additionally, the website listed a timetable for international flights, introducing a new route between Pyongyang and Shanghai, with two flights scheduled weekly. In 2023, North Korea had resumed the Pyongyang-Beijing flight route but had not reinstated the Pyongyang-Shanghai service. A source in China informed Yonhap News Agency that the regularity of Pyongyang-Shanghai flights has not yet been confirmed.

The revelation of the possible resumption of rail and flight services occurs as North Korea and China seem to be improving ties that were strained by Pyongyang's military alignment with Russia, which involved deploying North Korean troops to support Moscow in its conflict against Ukraine.
