Sinuiju: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has attended the groundbreaking ceremony for a new greenhouse farm and a vegetable science research center in the northwestern city of Sinuiju, reaffirming his commitment to regional development, state media reported Tuesday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the ceremony was held the previous day for the 450-hectare greenhouse farm and vegetable science research center, which will be constructed in Sinuiju, as reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA). Sinuiju is among the regions in North Korea that experienced flood damage last summer.

Kim had previously promised to establish a greenhouse farm in Sinuiju during a ceremony marking the completion of homes in the city late last year, as part of efforts to rebuild after the flood damage.

During the ceremony, Kim delivered a speech stating that the construction site will "symbolize our cause of rejuvenating the whole country" and demonstrate advancements in regional and rural development. He emphasized that the party and government are planning a new regional development project along the Amnok River, where flood damage has been repaired and a new socialist life has settled.

The North Korean leader also praised servicemen in the Navy and the Air Force, along with members of the Paektusan Hero Youth Shock Brigade, expressing confidence in their ability to construct "the most splendid and satisfactory structure" for the nation and its people.

Kim later met with the commanding officers of the military units involved in the construction, offering encouragement and providing a series of instructions, as reported by the KCNA. A group of senior party and military officials accompanied Kim to the ceremony, including Premier Pak Thae-song, Defense Minister No Kwang-chol, and Jong Kyong-thaek, director of the military's General Political Bureau, as well as the chiefs of the Navy and Air Force.
