N.K. art troupe to play many S. Korean songs during performances: ministry

SEOUL, :North Korea's art troupe will play many South Korean songs during their performances in the South to celebrate the upcoming Winter Olympic Games, the unification ministry said Friday.

In a telegram, the North informed later in the day that it agreed to Seoul's recently proposed venues and time for the performances by its art troupe, and that there will be many South Korean songs played.

The North will send its 140-member Samjiyon art troupe, which includes an orchestra, to the South for a concert in Gangneung, a sub-host city of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, and another in Seoul.

The troupe's first performance will be held at Gangneung Arts Center from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Feb. 8, followed by a concert at the National Theater of Korea in Seoul from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 11.

The troupe's advance team, consisting of 23 members, will cross into the South on Monday as scheduled via the western land route. The ministry said that the North promised to share other details related to the performances later on.

"We will carry out our preparations so the North's performances are well staged," the ministry said.
