Myanmar Parliament Approves Cabinet Nominees
HANOI, March 24 (Bernama) -- Myanmar's Union Parliament on Thursday approved a list of 18 nominees for ministers, including leader of the National League for Democracy (NLD) Aung San Suu Kyi, who will lead 21 ministries in the government of new President U Htin Kyaw, reports Vietnam News Agency (VNA).
However, the parliament session's agenda on Thursday did not deal with the particular portfolio assignment of these ministerial nominees, but proposed to form a constitution-related tribunal with nine persons to handle arising issues related to the constitution.
Of the nine persons, three were nominated by the President-elect, while three others by the House of Representatives (Lower House) and the remaining by the House of Nationalities (Upper House).
The formation of the tribunal will be adopted by the parliament on March 28, if there is no objection before 4pm on March 25 (local time).
The assignment of portfolios is expected to be announced later.
