Mountain Fire Erupts in Northern District of Nowon; Main Blaze Contained

Seoul: A fire erupted on a mountain in the northern district of Nowon on Sunday evening, leading authorities to issue a warning for residents to avoid the affected area. The incident occurred around 8:40 p.m. on Mount Surak, situated behind a community sports center in Sanggye-dong.

According to Yonhap News Agency, approximately 109 firefighters, supported by 30 vehicles, were dispatched to the scene to control the fire. Officials successfully contained the main blaze by 9:52 p.m. However, details regarding any potential damage, including casualties, were not immediately available.

In response to the fire, the Nowon district administration sent alert messages to local residents, advising them to steer clear of the site and take precautionary measures such as closing windows. Mount Surak stretches from the Nowon district into neighboring cities in Gyeonggi Province, located north of Seoul.
