Moon calls for continued ASEAN support for peace drive with N. Korea
SINGAPORE, President Moon Jae-in called Thursday for Southeast Asian nations and their dialogue partners China and Japan to continue their support for his peace drive with North Korea, saying lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula will be conducive to co-prosperity of the region.
Moon made the appeal during an ASEAN Plus Three summit involving the 10 member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and its three Northeast Asia dialogue partners: South Korea, China and Japan.
According to presidential officials, Moon told the meeting that efforts to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue have recently made big progress and that support and cooperation from the ASEAN Plus Three countries have been of big help during the process.
Moon also said that denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula and reducing tensions in the region will contribute greatly to peace and prosperity of the region's East Asian community as he called for continued support for his peace initiative.
