Moon assumes control of S. Korean military
SEOUL-- New South Korean President Moon Jae-in formally took over command of the nation's armed forces on Wednesday, immediately after his election.
In his first move, Moon received a report from Gen. Lee Sun-jin, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), by phone on North Korea.
Lee was quoted as telling Moon that "there is no problem in our military's defense posture."
He also told the president that the South's military stands ready to counter North Korea's provocation, according to the JCS.
