McMaster: U.S. will renegotiate THAAD deal with S. Korea
WASHINGTON-- The United States will renegotiate the terms of the THAAD missile defense system's deployment to South Korea, and until then, will stick to the existing deal that commits the U.S. to pay for it, National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster said Sunday.
McMaster made the remark during an interview with "Fox News Sunday," rejecting reports that he contracted President Donald Trump and promised the U.S. will pay for THAAD when he spoke by phone with his South Korean counterpart Kim Kwan-jin.
"The last thing I would ever do is contradict the president of the United States, you know? And That's not what it was. In fact, what I told our South Korean counterpart is until any renegotiation that the deal is in place. We'll adhere to our word," McMaster said.
