The search term surged to the top of Google's trends chart, with a search volume exceeding 2 million in the past 24 hours, marking an increase of over a thousand percent compared to the previous day. According to Yonhap News Agency, "Currency exchange rate" and "Kim Yong-hyun," the South Korean defense minister who reportedly suggested the martial law declaration to the president, ranked second and third on the trends chart, respectively. President Yoon declared martial law late Tuesday night, alleging that the opposition was crippling the government with "anti-state activities." However, the declaration was rescinded hours later after the National Assembly voted to terminate it. The incident left the nation in shock, leading to unprecedented traffic on the news page of Naver, South Korea's largest internet portal. The surge brief ly disrupted some of its functionalities, though services were quickly restored to normal.
