Main Opposition Party Urges President Yoon to Resign Over Controversial Martial Law Declaration.

Seoul: The main opposition Democratic Party (DP) on Wednesday called for President Yoon Suk Yeol to immediately resign following his unexpected declaration of martial law, which was subsequently nullified after the National Assembly voted against it. According to Yonhap News Agency, during an emergency meeting held at the National Assembly, the DP announced its intention to initiate impeachment proceedings against President Yoon if he does not voluntarily resign. The party emphasized in its resolution that Yoon's declaration of martial law represented a blatant violation of the Constitution, asserting that he did not meet any of the necessary conditions for such a declaration. The DP described the declaration as a "serious act of rebellion" and stated that it provided a "perfect reason for impeachment." President Yoon had declared "emergency" martial law in a surprise televised address on Tuesday night, accusing the opposition of "paralyzing" the government with "anti-state" activities.
