Main Blaze in Daegu Wildfire Contained

Daegu: The main blaze in a wildfire that reignited on a mountain in the southeastern city of Daegu has been contained, forest service authorities said Thursday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, about 40 helicopters and 900 personnel were deployed to put out the wildfire that reignited on Mount Hamji in Daegu, with firefighters working to extinguish smoldering fires, as reported by officials at the Korea Forest Service.

The fire initially began on Monday afternoon and was brought under control nearly 23 hours later on Tuesday afternoon, after burning through 260 hectares of land and necessitating the evacuation of over 2,000 residents.

On Tuesday evening, however, the fire reignited on sections of the mountain. By Wednesday evening, the flames had spread dangerously close to nearby residential areas, driven by strong winds.
