LPGA Star Kim Hyo-joo’s Winning Formula: ‘I Have Fun’

Phoenix: It is often said golf is as much a mental sport as it is a physical one. Even accomplished professionals work with sports psychologists to hone the mental part of their craft. Kim Hyo-joo, the South Korean LPGA veteran who has now won in back-to-back weeks, has her own secret to success: she has fun.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim stated, "I love this game of golf, and so I always want to enjoy playing it," after securing victory at the Ford Championship on Cattail Course at Whirlwind Golf Club in Phoenix. Her mindset, as she describes, is simply to enjoy the game, which she attributes to her recent successes.

Kim finished with her career-best 28-under 260, narrowly beating Nelly Korda by two strokes. This triumph came a day after she set an LPGA scoring record for 54 holes at 25-under, shooting 11-under 61 twice during the event.

Her aggressive approach to the game has paid off. "I've been trying to be more aggressive, knowing I had to make a lot of birdies on this course," Kim explained, which has clearly worked well in her favor over the past weeks.

However, the victory was not without its challenges. Kim experienced a double bogey on the eighth hole on Sunday, narrowing her lead over Korda to just one stroke. Reflecting on the incident, she said, "I never once thought I would make a double bogey this week. It was a wake-up call for me."

Despite the setback, Kim made a strong comeback with three birdies on the back nine, securing her place as the first player to achieve two victories in the 2026 LPGA season. With her original goal of winning two tournaments already accomplished, Kim is now contemplating her next target. "I have no idea right now," she admitted, indicating she might set a new goal soon.
