LG’s new flagship V30 smartphone to be unveiled later this month
SEOUL-- LG Electronics Inc. on Tuesday announced that its new flagship smartphone, the LG V30, will be showcased later this month, which will come with top-notch features, including high-end camera and video capabilities.
Through an invitation sent to reporters, LG said the showcase event for the device, the successor of the V20 released last year, will be held in Berlin on Aug. 31 at 9:00 a.m. (Berlin time), and it will be aired through YouTube, as well as social media platforms.
The company said the 6-inch LG V30 will come with what it calls 18:9 ratio Full Vision display, which minimizes bezels to provide users with a wider screen.
The circles on the invitation also hint at the V30 coming with state-of-the-art camera features. The invitation had three words -- lights, camera, action -- in an apparent bid to promote the smartphone's camera feature.
Through teasers released earlier, the company said the organic light-emitting diode (OLED) Full Vision display will allow the 6-inch V30 to actually feel smaller in one's hands compared with the 5.7-inch LG V20. The company claimed it reduced the bezels at the top and bottom by 20 percent and 50 percent, respectively.
The logo of LG Electronics will be located on the back, seeking what the company calls a "minimalist design" for the front.
LG Electronics said earlier its mobile communications division, which oversees the smartphone business, posted an operating loss of 132.4 billion won (US$117 million) for the second quarter on sluggish sales of premium devices, coupled with the increase of expenditures on the flagship G6 smartphone.
The company has been posting quarterly operating losses since the third quarter of 2015.
Accordingly, the latest flagship device is anticipated to play a decisive role in revitalizing the company's handset business, industry watchers said.
