Seoul: South Korean conglomerate LG Group announced on Thursday that its affiliates engaged in discussions regarding a comprehensive partnership with Mercedes-Benz Group AG in the automotive parts sector, focusing on advanced cars, including electric vehicles (EVs).
According to Yonhap News Agency, Cho Joo-wan, CEO of LG Electronics Inc., met with Mercedes-Benz Group Chairman Ola Kallenius in Seoul. The meeting aimed to exchange visions on the future mobility industry, particularly led by EVs. The gathering also included three other LG affiliate leaders: Kim Dong-myung of LG Energy Solution Ltd., Jeong Cheol-dong of LG Display Co., and Moon Hyuk-soo of LG Innotek Co.
During the meeting, LG Group indicated that its affiliates discussed potential cooperation with the German carmaker in next-generation automobiles, encompassing EVs and software-defined vehicles (SDVs), utilizing the "One LG" solution. This dialogue comes as LG and Mercedes-Benz have been collaborating on various joint projects, such as developing an advanced driver assistance system for the Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan in partnership with LG Electronics.
Since 2020, LG Display has been a supplier of plastic organic light-emitting diode (P-OLED) displays to Mercedes-Benz, reinforcing the ongoing collaboration between the two companies. Additionally, Mercedes-Benz maintains a partnership with LG Energy Solution for battery supplies and is considering a potential collaboration with LG Innotek for camera modules and other auto components.
Cho Joo-wan emphasized the significance of their strategic partnership with Mercedes-Benz, highlighting user experience-oriented value and a comprehensive SDV solution portfolio. He stated that LG Group aims to strengthen their position in the automotive parts industry, leveraging their business competitiveness proven in the global market.
