Seoul: LG Energy Solution Ltd., South Korea's leading battery maker, announced its ambitious plan to enhance productivity by 50 percent by 2028, leveraging artificial intelligence transformation (AX). Chief Executive Officer Kim Dong-myung shared this strategic objective in a communication to employees, emphasizing the importance of AX for the company's future competitiveness and sustainability.
According to Yonhap News Agency, CEO Kim highlighted the global battery market's current challenges, pointing to competitors' substantial investments in talent and governmental backing. He stressed the need for a paradigm shift by concentrating on core assets and talent through AX. Kim identified LG Energy's broad patent portfolio, intellectual property, extensive industry experience, and skilled workforce as crucial strengths. He proposed that aligning these resources with AI technologies would generate synergies capable of transforming the market landscape.
The revised 2028 target reflects a notable shift from the company's previous goal of a 30 percent productivity increase by 2030. In January, Kim outlined that the company aimed to achieve its initial target by integrating AI into three main areas: product development, materials development, and manufacturing operations.
LG Energy Solution currently operates eight battery plants, with locations in South Korea, the United States, Canada, Poland, China, and Indonesia. Additionally, four more plants in the U.S. are set to commence operations this year.
