Michigan: LG Energy Solution Ltd. (LGES), South Korea's leading battery maker, announced that it has commenced mass production of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries designed for energy storage systems (ESS) at its manufacturing facility in Michigan. This marks a significant milestone as LGES becomes the only major global battery maker to initiate mass production of LFP batteries specifically tailored for ESS within the United States.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the pouch-type LFP batteries for ESS, which are based on long cell technology, are being produced at the Michigan plant. LGES officials have stated that they are currently engaged in discussions with multiple customers across the North American region regarding the supply of these ESS batteries. They have already confirmed supply agreements with several major U.S. energy firms, including Terra-Gen and Delta Electronics.
LGES has expressed its intentions to swiftly meet the rising demand for ESS, particularly in advanced sectors such as artificial intelligence (AI) data centers and renewable energy industries. The company is strategically positioning itself to capitalize on the increasing need for reliable and efficient energy storage solutions in these rapidly growing markets.
