Seoul: LG Electronics Inc. on Tuesday estimated its second-quarter operating profit surged 146.9 percent from the previous year to a record high, propelled by strong sales in its home appliance division.
According to Yonhap News Agency, LG Electronics projected that its operating profit would amount to 1.57 trillion won (US$1.02 billion) for the April-June timeframe, a significant increase from 639.4 billion won recorded in the same period a year ago, as stated in a regulatory filing by the company.
The company also reported that revenue increased by 14.9 percent year-on-year, reaching a record 23.82 trillion won. However, details on the net profit were not immediately disclosed.
For the first half of the current year, LG Electronics achieved a record revenue of 47.56 trillion won, with the operating profit reaching an unprecedented 3.25 trillion won. This first-half operating profit figure surpasses the company's entire operating profit of 2.48 trillion won from the previous year.
The company's impressive performance was attributed to strong sales of premium home appliances and televisions. Additionally, air conditioner sales experienced growth in international markets during the peak seasonal demand period. The continued expansion of LG's vehicle components business also contributed to offsetting uncertainties arising from geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
