Seoul: LG Display Co. on Wednesday reported a significant net loss for the fourth quarter, amounting to 839.1 billion won (US$584.6 million), marking a stark shift from the 50.5 billion won profit recorded in the same period the previous year. Despite this downturn, the company saw a 5.9 percent increase in revenue, which totaled 7.83 trillion won for the October-December period.
According to Yonhap News Agency, LG Display's operating income experienced a 36.9 percent decline on a year-on-year basis, reaching 83.1 billion won. This figure fell short of expectations, coming in 55.0 percent lower than the average estimate based on a survey conducted by Yonhap Infomax, a financial data firm associated with Yonhap News Agency. The survey did not provide an estimate for the net profit.
The reported figures reflect the challenges faced by LG Display in maintaining profitability amid fluctuating market conditions. The increase in revenue suggests potential areas of growth, yet the substantial operating income drop highlights the financial pressures confronting the display manufacturing giant.
