Santa clara: LG Electronics Inc. announced on Friday its plans to introduce a next-generation humanoid robot that can walk on two legs. This innovative robot, which is set to be unveiled in the first quarter of 2027, will be developed using Nvidia Corp.'s cutting-edge robotics platform.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the announcement was made following the signing of a memorandum of understanding at Nvidia's headquarters in Santa Clara, California. The event was attended by LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, highlighting the significance of the collaboration between the two tech giants.

The humanoid robot will be equipped with Nvidia's Jetson Thor robotics chip module. It will also be developed using Nvidia's Isaac GR00T humanoid foundation model and the Holoscan for Robotics safety system. These advanced technologies will enable the robot to perform bipedal walking and other complex tasks safely and efficiently.

LG Electronics plans to incorporate technologies from its key affiliates into the robot. This includes actuators from LG Electronics, sensors from LG Innotek Co., and batteries from LG Energy Solution Ltd. This integration of technologies is part of LG's broader vision to consolidate the essential capabilities for the commercialization of robotics, which the company views as a flagship future business in the emerging physical AI industry.

The collaboration between LG and Nvidia extends beyond robotics. The two companies will also cooperate in areas such as artificial intelligence (AI) factories and mobility, signaling a comprehensive partnership aimed at advancing technological innovation across multiple sectors.
