San jose: A special envoy for President Lee Jae Myung has met Costa Rican President-elect Laura Fernandez and discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in infrastructure and other fields, the foreign ministry said Friday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, former lawmaker Yang Kyung-sook delivered Lee's congratulatory message and a personal letter to Fernandez on Thursday during his visit. In the letter, Lee expressed his commitment to further developing the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries, which have continued for more than 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1962.
Yang also requested Costa Rica's support for South Korean companies to actively participate in infrastructure projects in the Latin American country, while also calling for support for peace on the Korean Peninsula. In response, Fernandez highly valued South Korea's contributions to Costa Rica's economic and social development and expressed hope for further strengthening cooperation in such key sectors as digital technology and transportation, according to the ministry.
Yang is scheduled to attend Fernandez's inauguration ceremony and a presidential reception Friday and hold meetings with senior officials of the new government, it added.
