Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating has seen a decline, dropping to 55 percent, as revealed by a biweekly poll on Thursday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, a National Barometer Survey conducted from Monday to Wednesday indicated a 3 percentage point decrease in the positive assessment of President Lee's job performance compared to the previous poll. Conversely, the negative assessment of his performance decreased by 1 percentage point to 34 percent.
The survey also highlighted changes in political party support, with the ruling Democratic Party experiencing a 4 percentage point decline in support, now standing at 38 percent. Meanwhile, support for the main opposition People Power Party increased by 2 percentage points, reaching 22 percent.
A contentious issue affecting public opinion is the government's plan to establish an integrated military academy for the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The poll results showed that 55 percent of respondents opposed the proposal, while 34 percent were in favor. Critics, including some factions within the armed services and the People Power Party, argue that such an integration could potentially weaken the overall military readiness of the country.
The survey was carried out by the collaborative efforts of Embrain Public, Kstat Research, Korea Research, and Hankook Research, involving 1,000 participants aged 18 and older. The poll maintains a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level.
