Lee to Meet U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent to Discuss Tariffs and Upcoming Summit

Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung is set to meet with U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent this week to discuss U.S. tariffs and other pertinent issues, according to Lee's office. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, a day before Bessent's trip to China for the U.S.-China summit between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping.

According to Yonhap News Agency, diplomatic sources have confirmed Bessent's one-day visit to Seoul. The discussions between Lee and Bessent are anticipated to cover U.S. tariff measures and global supply chain stability, topics likely to be addressed during the U.S.-China summit later in the week. Additionally, they are expected to explore other ongoing issues affecting relations between Seoul and Washington.

Before engaging with Bessent, President Lee will also have a meeting with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng. This encounter is expected to focus on topics related to the U.S.-China summit as well as initiatives to maintain peace both internationally and on the Korean Peninsula.

Meanwhile, Bessent is scheduled for high-level trade discussions with Vice Premier He on Wednesday to finalize details ahead of the significant summit between Trump and Xi.
