Seoul: President Lee Jae-myung is set to preside over his first Cabinet meeting since assuming the presidency earlier this week. Lee is anticipated to emphasize the importance of continuity in state affairs and uphold public service discipline during the meeting with Cabinet members from the preceding Yoon Suk Yeol administration.
According to Yonhap News Agency, on Wednesday, Lee rejected resignation offers from Cabinet members, with the exception of Justice Minister Park Sung-jae, to ensure uninterrupted governance. This decision underscores his commitment to maintaining stability in state operations. A quorum, consisting of a majority of the 21 Cabinet members, is essential for convening Cabinet meetings. The current members are expected to continue in their roles until Lee establishes a new Cabinet, a process that could extend over several weeks due to the necessity of parliamentary confirmation hearings.
In addition to the Cabinet meeting, Lee will chair a session aimed at reviewing the national safety system. Lee's presidency commenced without a transition period after the early June 3 election, which was conducted to replace Yoon following his removal over a failed martial law bid.
